It all started in the early 70s, up until then the customer had no way to telling the difference between good or a bad mechanic. In a response to this problem, the independent, National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) was created.
ASE’s mission from the beginning has always been one to improve the quality of auto repair and maintenance through certification and the testing of service and repair mechanics.
Currently, about 450,000 certified mechanic’s nation-wide are certified. They work in every area of the car, truck or SUV service industry. From the car and truck dealerships, repair garages to the local tire shops most have certified mechanics repairing your vehicles.
Here’s how an ASE mechanical certification works: A prospective mechanic sign up and registers for any one of 40-plus ASE’s exams available. The tests are categorized into specialties for every area of repair and service relating to the maintenance and repair of your vehicle. Upon completion and passing the test for proficiency they are awarded an ASE certificate.
With the completion and passing of at least one test and after proof of a two years mechanical experience, the graduate earns an ASE certified Certificate, however, this is not an ongoing certificate. To remain ASE certified, mechanics with ASE credentials will be retested every five years.
Consumers of McLea’s Tire and Automotive Centers benefit from ASE certifications. It gives us a level of trust that our customer can rely on.
A McLea’s ASE-certified professionals wear ASE insignia and display certificates listing their exact areas of certifications, (tune up, brakes and engine repair, etc.), we also display the technicians’ credentials in the front waiting area.

America’s Shuttle Team!
Having your car serviced in Santa Rosa and need a ride? These two fine fellas will be happy to take you home or to work. Then when your car is ready, give them a call and they’ll come and pick you up. Gerald is on the left and was originally a customer who had been coming to us for service since the 70’s. Chuck has amazing singing ability and a great sense of humor. Both are a joy to be around and we’re happy to have them as members of our team. We couldn’t provide the customer service that we do without these two!

Jose and Darren
Jose Zarco and Darren McLea are an unstoppable force in the tire industry. Jose has worked with McLea’s for over 7 years now! Jose is one of the most thorough and accurate technicians that you will ever come across. He prides himself in doing a perfect job the first time, every time! Darren grew up playing in sandboxes made of old used tires and enjoyed hiding in the stacks while Dad was working. He started as the clean up kid over 10 years ago, scrubbing the toilets and sweeping floors after school. Today, Jose y Darren son amigos buenos and can often be found tearing up the dance floor at Los Caballos on the weekends. Jose also goes by the nickname “Guapo” because he is a handsome devil! In the picture below Jose lets his great personality show with a nice smile while Darren tries really, really hard to look cool. Steve Jensen is not pictured but cried when he wasn’t mentioned. So here ya go, Steve!

Steve Mac!
Steve Mac is the reigning World Heavyweight Champion of McLea’s Tire Centers. You can find Mac back in our Commercial Service Department swinging a sledgehammer to break down the beads of large tractor tires. Mac is actually a former professional wrestler, battling large brutes back in the early 90’s and riding his Harley down to the ring. Now that he has hung up his boots and is no longer pounding opponents into submission, he puts his focus towards providing perfect customer service to every customer that comes in. And if you ever need to learn some new wrestling holds, Mac is quick to lock on a camel clutch and let you learn!

Urbano & Juan
Look at these two young stallions. Urbano and Juan are two key members of our commercial truck tire department. In fact, they should be wearing red capes because they are superheroes when it comes to servicing our commercial accounts. You can often find Urbano on the road running service calls and Juan is always at our Santa Rosa location with tools in hand ready for anything a big rig may need. Just look at Juan holding on to our service truck ready to go on a service call with Urbano. That shows you the strength that this young man posseses. What a power house! Urbano y Juan son muy fuerte!

The Chaelo
Chaelo is a heck of a guy. I mean he really is. Not only does he speak six different languages, he can dance the two step like nobody’s business and the wild fandango. Currently, Chaelo is hosting his River Tours Rides at the Russian River. He has converted an old Oldsmobile into a charriot. It is lifted 37″ and has 44″ Super Swampers underneath it to take people across the river and show them the sites. It’s a great deal and coupon’s for $10 off can be found in your local news paper. Chaelo is all that is.

Glen Houde
Look at this handsome devil. Glen Houde is manager of our Sonoma location. Along with his friendly crew, Glen is ready to help you with all your automotive repair and customizing needs. He is very knowledgeable about your car and will provide you with Super Service every time. Let me tell you something about this sly devil. He is quite important. He’s kind of a big deal. People know him. He has many leather bound books, and his house smells of rich mahogony. Quote the Houde, Nevermore!
