
Tire Repair
One of the main reasons for tire failure and rejection during the retread process is the improper tire repair. This area is most often overlooked when companies set up tire maintenance programs, a survey conducted Tire Business magazine showed that 46% of tire failures were caused by improper repair procedures.
When a radial tire has been damaged and the steel cords are exposed to moisture it is important that the area be repaired immediately to keep the moisture out and moving along the steel belt creating further damage.
The best method of repair for tire damages of (1/4″) is to plug and then patch repair. The plug stops the entrance of moisture and the patch on the inside seals the damage and supports the plug. For damage larger than (3/8″ and larger) the tire should be removed from service.
